SHARED ROOTS, DIVERGENT PATHS SERIES
Jews and Pharisees: Reality vs. Their Portrayal in Christian Preaching
Following May’s groundbreaking conference in Rome on "Jesus and the Pharisees," the latest Shared Roots, Divergent Paths event will focus on the Pharisees. Often Christians used the Pharisees to symbolize everything they found wrong with Judaism. Jews, in contrast, tend to see the Pharisees as the ancestors of the Rabbis, learned scholars who brought the Torah to everyday life.
Join us for next program in an ongoing interfaith series between AJC Westchester/Fairfield and Iona College on Monday, September 23rd at 7:30pm for a presentation which will explore what current research reveals about the Pharisees historically and how they were depicted in the later Jewish and Christians traditions. Help us contribute to changing the conversation on this important issue!
The program will feature:
Philip A. Cunningham, PhD
Professor of Theology; Director, Institute for Jewish-Catholic Relations
Saint Joseph’s University
and
Rabbi Abraham Skorka, PhD
University Professor
Saint Josephs’ University
co-author of On Heaven and Earth
with Pope Francis
The program is taking place in the Thomas J. Burke Lounge, Spellman Hall at Iona College in New Rochelle, New York. This event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments served.

AJC Westchester/Fairfield connects the local community with AJC’s global advocacy work to enhance the well-being of the Jewish people and Israel. Our access to diplomats, elected officials, and interfaith leaders at the local level advances AJC’s broader global priorities: combating anti-Semitism, promoting Israel’s place in the world, and countering the spread of radicalism and extremism.
